How to Build a Kosmic Pantry
ideas for making your kitchen and storage feel a bit more magical
This post has been a long time in the making. After buying our first home a few years ago, we’ve been slowly working on projects to make it feel like our own.
It’s a small 1940s farmhouse, and rumor has it, it was originally a schoolhouse with additions added on years later to make it a home.
When we bought the place, you entered into a small laundry/utility room and were abruptly greeted with a clunky stackable washer-dryer.
I immediately knew that 1. this would NOT be our main entrance, and 2. that I wanted to turn this little room into a walk-in pantry since it was right off the kitchen.

Thankfully, we had a little storage shed outside where we could move the washer-dryer, and that’s now become what we like to call the bathhouse. Conveniently enough, that space was pretty easy to pull water to and worked for our outdoor tub and shower, just outside of our makeshift little laundry room.
The last bit of prepping the new pantry was removing the old standard water heater and installing an on-demand water heater outside, which completely opened up the space.
Now that the pantry was cleared out, we could move on to the fun stuff. Ever since I can remember, I’ve been obsessed with home design. Even as a kid, I remember receiving those thick JCPenney catalogs and cutting out photos to create a collage of what I wanted in my home.
So you can imagine how much I enjoy Pinterest now, and with any project we do, I’m always pulling lots of visuals for inspiration. Here’s a peek at some of the inspo I pulled for the pantry.
