I’ve been full on with a private chef gig this month and have been slow on all things computer related. That being said my lack of computer time is being made up for hours in the kitchen and lots of comforting cool-weather recipes to come.
While my schedule has been packed and I’m out of my normal routine, I’ve really been relishing in my mornings. This is the main part of the day that feels like it’s mine. I’m not on anyone’s time but my own and it feels sacred to me.
My morning ritual goes a little something like this: 1.Turn the heat on because it’s freezing when I wake up! 2. Light a candle in the kitchen to romanticize making coffee. 3. Put on said coffee and add half and half to my frother. 4. Peak in the fridge for something quick to heat up for breakfast.
This usually consists of leftover soup with a slice of well-buttered sourdough toast, a soft omelette with lots of fresh herbs, or savory porridge with a runny egg.
Then I’ll sit down with my coffee and breakfast and map out my day and review anything I need to. Its slow deliberate time to ease into my day where there’s a little space to dream and be more present.
To be honest, my default over the years has been to skip breakfast first thing and eat an hour or so after waking up—typical vata constitution with slow digestion and not feeling hungry, so I wouldn’t take the time to eat.
Now I’m realizing how important it is for my body to get some nourishment right away, especially if I’m indulging in my decaf latte.
This has been such a game-changer for my energy throughout the day. I don’t have that blood sugar crash right before lunch which is when I’m usually tempted to eat things that don’t feel so great later.
While I’m not usually a sweet breakfast person, sometimes I can’t resist a homemade waffle on the weekend. It doesn’t have to be complicated either, especially if you grab a bag of waffle mix so there’s basically no measuring.
