Recipe Roundup: Spring Edition
Spring feels like it’s just around the corner. The last few days have felt lighter and brighter since the sun has decided to come out and stay for a while.
While the apple trees aren’t quite budding on our property, signs of spring are all around. The flowers from the baby blue forget-me-not and neon yellow sour grass blanket the ground adding a pop of color to a sea of green.
With every seasonal transition, we’re invited to take nature’s lead and enjoy the bounty of what’s growing around us. Or in any case, we can lean into foods of the season that you’ll find at your local store or market.
Besides being the freshest and most abundant, eating with the season also helps us naturally get the foods and flavors that will be the most supportive during this time.
For instance, there are a lot of bitter herbs and foods right now to support our body’s digestion and detox pathways which can ease some of those sluggish feelings post-winter.
It’s still a great time to enjoy warming cooked foods, while the weather is still cool, but you’ll probably find you’re starting to crave lighter raw foods like salads or sprouted greens on sunny days.
I made a little guide to help remind you what’s in season this time of year, especially in Northern California.
I’ve also linked some of my favorite spring recipes over the years that I think you’ll come to love too.
1. Yogurt Flatbreads with Fava and Mint Pesto
2. Herby Sweet Pea Dip
3. Spring Pita Panzanella
